Genital Warts Symptoms May Not Be Noticeable in All the Cases

By Christine Stone-Casey

There are several prominent Genital warts symptoms in the patients who are suffering from these irritating warts. Sexual contact with the infected partner may spread these warts and hence they're considered highly contagious. This sexually transmitted disease is known to infect two-third of the people (of course only due to sexual contact with their infected partners. But, it is not necessary that the genital warts' symptoms are noticeable all the time.

Through the serious observation made by doctors, they have found that the moist and the warm environmental conditions in the genital area favour the growth of warts. The genital warts symptoms appear to be worse in the patients, who have the problematic immune system and for women during pregnancy.

Patients who have been affected by such genital infections in the past, are usually at high risk of catching some kind of cancer in the later stages of life. 90 percent of cervical malignancies are associated with the human papilloma virus and play a big role in cancers of anus, penis, vulva and vagina. There are chances to transmit the cervical warts to the new born through the birth canal.

Unlike the other sexually transmitted diseases, the human papilloma virus infection does not exhibit the genital warts symptoms. According to the study reports by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, half of the HPV women had no possible visible genital warts symptoms. In several cases, tiny hard spots that are visible to eye can develop within a span of 3 weeks to 3 months after getting exposed to the virus.

The genital warts symptoms in women can occur inside the vagina, on the periphery of vagina or around the anus. Cervical warts also develop in women in flat scratches mostly invisible in the early stages. Analysis of genital warts symptoms is necessary for a person who has the warts and is better to consult a doctor so that the other types of similar infections can be ruled out (or treated otherwise).

The symptoms of these warts are normally analysed by the direct visual examination. The HPV scratches appear whitish when acetic acid is applied on the penis or cervix. A painless test called Colposcopy is done to view the reproductive organs in women and it is always performed under the doctor's supervision.

Human Papilloma Virus, well known reason behind the HPV Genital Warts, causes a kind of viral infection that spreads through the sexual skin-to-skin contact. HPV is one among the 100 different types of viruses, with 30 strains that cause various types of cancer. At present, there is no sure-shot treatment for HPV genital warts.

HPV warts are transmitted when there is a skin-to-skin contact during anal, oral or the vaginal sex with the HPV infected partner. If a person is affected with the HPV genital warts, symptoms and signs may appear after a week, month or even a year.

The HPV warts usually appear in the form of cauliflower shape, and are found outside and inside the genital region. These take long time to appear after sexual contact with an infected partner and in some cases they may not appear at all.

One can know that you are affected with such warts, if you exhibit any of the noticeable symptoms. All the strains of HPV do not cause cancer, while most of them generate genital infections, which are in the cauliflower shape around penis, anus and vagina as mentioned earlier.

A well known method to find out the HPV genital warts in women is the regular pelvic test and Pap smear. The pelvic test requires the physician to examine the vagina very closely and then conclude whether any possible symptoms are visible.

The other way, i.e. the Pap smear can discover the changes of precancer on the cervix caused by the HPV that leads to the cancer. Normally this type of HPV does not exhibit any symptoms, so it is better to try the Pap smear test. If this is left undetected, then the high risk HPV strains can cause cervical cancer.

In the case of men, there is no special screening test available to determine if they are affected with the HPV genital warts. These can be analyzed by the visual examination of penis and surrounding regions.

One effective way to identify the HPV is to test the samples of cervical cells. At present there is no particular test to identify whether a man has HPV genital warts.

By not participating in any type of sexual relations is the ideal one to prevent HPV genital warts from spreading but it is not so realistic in case of adults. Use of condom during sex can give limited protection for men.
